Michael Dolan is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Bacardi. Formally he was CEO of IMG Worldwide, a recognized global leader in sports, fashion and media. Since joining IMG in early 2010 as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, Michael has been instrumental in the development and execution of the company’s global growth strategy, leading IMG’s expansion into high growth markets, including China, India, Brazil and Turkey, as well as expansion into new business areas.
Prior to joining IMG, Michael served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Viacom, Inc., where he managed the creation and spin-off of “new” Viacom (MTV and an array of cable networks, as well as Paramount Pictures) and CBS Corp., and the launch of the two new public companies in early 2009. From 2000 to 2003, Michael was Chairman and CEO of Young & Rubicam (Y&R), the diversified global marketing services company. After joining Y&R in 1995 as Vice Chairman and Chief Financial Officer, Michael led the 1996 recapitalization of the company with Hellman & Friedman, the successful Initial Public Offering in 1998, and three subsequent secondary offerings. Y&R ranks as one of Hellman & Friedman’s most successful investments. Michael negotiated the sale of Y&R to WPP Group Plc in 2000.
Prior to Y&R, Michael spent six years with PepsiCo Foods International, including four years in the Netherlands as President and Chief Executive Officer of Snack Ventures Europe, a joint venture of the European salty snack businesses of General Mills and Pepsi Foods International (Frito Lay); and stints as Senior Vice President of Operations and Vice President of Strategic Planning. His earlier experience included a period with Continental Group as President of the Beverage and Food Can Divisions after its acquisition by Peter Kiewit Sons; and as a Partner with Booz Allen & Hamilton, the global management consultancy. Michael began his career with Morgan Guaranty Trust Co. of New York.
Michael’s academic background includes a PhD in English Literature from Cornell University and an MBA from Columbia University, as well as BA and MA degrees in English from Fordham University. With a lifelong commitment to education, Michael was an investor in and served as Chairman of the Board of America’s Choice, Inc., a developer of research-based school improvement solutions, from October 2004 to September 2010 when the company was sold to Pearson Plc. Michael is a member of the Board of Directors of Mattel, Inc., serving as a member of the Executive and Governance & Social Responsibility Committees and as a Chair of the Compensation Committee. He also sits on the Board of Bacardi, Limited, the world’s largest privately held spirits producer where he serves on the Audit Committee.
